Picking out outfits is maybe the most daunting but also the most fun part! I have a few guidelines I tell all my families that make the process easier.
I have created an Amazon Fall Family Session Wardrobe Guide that has great options for the entire family, feel free to browse through it HERE. If you just want the cliff notes of what to wear, read on!
When it comes to selecting the perfect outfits for fall family sessions, comfort and style should complement each other seamlessly. The vibrant autumn leaves provide a stunning backdrop, making it essential to choose colors and textures that harmonize with the natural scenery. Warm tones, such as mustard yellows, deep burgundies, and earthy browns, can enhance the warmth of the season, while layering options like cardigans, scarves, and stylish jackets can add flair and keep everyone cozy.
Ultimately, the aim is to create a cohesive look that reflects your family’s personality while making sure you feel confident and at ease in front of the camera.
If you are needing some help with picking out outfits, I included some tips below!
Layering: Layering adds depth to your outfits. Consider a base layer, a warm sweater, and a stylish coat or jacket.
Color Palette: Opt for warm, earthy tones that complement the fall scenery, such as burgundy, mustard, olive green, and burnt orange.
Textures: Incorporate different textures like knits, corduroy, and flannel to create visual interest.
Comfort: Choose comfortable clothing so everyone can move freely and enjoy the session. Avoid overly tight or fussy outfits.
Footwear: Select shoes that are both stylish and practical for outdoor settings. Consider boots, as they are both trendy and functional for fall.
Accessories: Use accessories like scarves, hats, or statement jewelry to add character to your outfits.
Coordinating but Not Matching: Aim for coordinating colors and styles rather than matching outfits to keep the look natural and relaxed.
Seasonal Items: Consider incorporating props like blankets, pumpkins, or leaves for a seasonal touch to your photos.
When it comes to stuff, less is best! I recommend leaving purses, diaper bags, backpacks behind. If you can squeeze the essentials into a gallon ziploc bag, I can tote it for you!
Usually all you will need is a few snacks and water for the kids (make sure the snacks aren’t messy!), wipes for any potential messes, and depending on the ages of your kids, some bribes. Gummies and mini marshmallows are great for bribe snacks. They’re small and they can help us with any negotiations that need to be done!
